According to an LSU official who spoke to ESPN on Sunday, former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy was discovered deceased in Houston on Saturday night.
It took some time to determine the cause of death.
Lacy was charged with causing a crash on December 17 that killed a 78-year-old man and then fled the scene without providing assistance or contacting the police. According to police records, he handed himself in to authorities on January 12, was arrested, and was later freed on $151,000 bond.
According to records from the Lafourche (Louisiana) Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lacy was accused of careless driving, felony hit-and-run with death, and negligent murder. A grand jury was scheduled to start hearing the case’s evidence on Monday, WAFB-TV reported.

Offices claim 24-year-old LSU wide receiver and NFL draft prospect Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 when he allegedly made dangerous passing maneuvers. According to a Louisiana State Police press release, Lacy “recklessly sped past several vehicles by crossing into the northbound lane in a no-passing zone.”
The driver of an oncoming pickup truck supposedly braked hard and veered to the right to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy’s vehicle at the time of the unlawful pass. In the wake of the pickup, the driver of a 2017 Kia Cadenza veered left to avoid the Charger but lost traction, crossing over the median and crashing into a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.

Police indicate that Lacy left the scene without pausing to render aid, call for emergency assistance, or report his participation. Herman Hall, a Sorento passenger, sadly succumbed to injuries from the accident.
Lacy’s lawyer, Rocky Arceneaux, said his client was “fully cooperating with authorities.”
Even as the investigation is ongoing, Lacy declared for the NFL draft two days after the Dec. 17 incident, remaining idle for LSU’s Texas Bowl victory over Baylor. ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper initially listed him as the sixth-best receiver prospect in December but by Kiper’s last pre-draft list last month saw him fall outside the top 10.
Lacy, a Louisiana native, played three seasons at LSU, his best season his final one—58 receptions for 866 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns.
